It’s that time of year again, when the great, the good and the hopefuls arrive in New Plymouth – Taranaki – New Zealand for the annual New Zealand Surf Festival. Usually held at Fitzroy Beach unless wave conditions are not so good.
Below are some of my favorite shots form the event, I wish I had a slightly longer lens, as 400mm is just a bit too short, and it’s only the resolution of the 5D MK3 that lets me crop in a bit.
I prefer to convert many of the surfing images to monochrome, as I think it isolates the subject, and brings out the details in the waves/surf. It also separates my shots from everyone elses, who mostly stick to colour.
