A new subject for me, that of macro, and still life. Not my usual stomping ground but seeking new inspiration for subjects I purchased a light tent and various backgrounds, and set up one bright sunny day on our deck. Various things were shot, some more successfully than others. The aim as usual was to produce some new images for Arcangel, and also to try out some new techniques as macro is not a subject I am known for, and I have never shot a set up still life before.
I used a mixture of equipment, just playing around really.
The first shot is taken with a Canon 5D MK3 and a Sigma 50mm 1:1 macro lens.
The other 3 shots are all taken with a Fuji X-E2 and the Fuji 60mm macro lens.
The subjects were housed in a 80cm x 80cm light tent, just a cheep one from Ebay. The lighting was provided by gods great speedlight in the sky, I had to use some extra diffusers over the light tent to reduce the strength of the sun a bit. Exposure readings were taken with a hand held meter, and the cameras were set in manual mode.
By far the bet results came from the Fuji, despite it struggling with the AF a bit, it was much nicer to see the effect of +/- EV changes in the viewfinder.
Anyway I was happy with the results, and enjoyed shooting still life subjects, so I am now on the hunt for other interesting things to shoot.
A quick shot at the end to show the simple set up.
