As the title suggests this weekend involved learning about the dark side of photography or Off Camera Flash (OCF). It has been (and still is) a massive hole in my knowledge and skill base. I have never needed to use OCF, or have shied away from situations that have needed it, or just bumped up the ISO until the shutter speed is enough to capture the subject without blur. But this leaves a massive untapped resource of creative images that I would never achieve.
So with this in mind I spent the weekend being taught OCF from the very basics of light, lighting patterns, manual metering etc. To say I left with a headache would be an understatement, but I also left with greater knowledge, and more importantly a confidence to get out and try it some more.
The results from one of the shoots is below.
